As Suicide Prevention Month approaches in September, CSPP is excited and ready to take action! While Suicide Prevention Month is a great time to increase awareness around mental health in the construction industry, we recognize that prevention is a year-long effort and requires consistent communication and learning. Much of our work to create a successful Suicide Prevention Month begins months in advance. We want to highlight some important collaborations that fuel our enthusiasm for suicide prevention all year long!
- Recently, CSPP was honored to participate in Dave Garske’s, Vice President of Hoffman Construction and a passionate supporter of CSPP, backyard concert. The event featured Todd Carey, a renowned American singer-songwriter and record producer. Todd has toured nationally and shared the stage with artists like Train, John Mayer, Fall Out Boy, Echosmith, and Jason Mraz. At the concert, CSPP raised over $2,000 and engaged in meaningful conversations with attendees. We are incredibly grateful to have been part of such a fantastic event, and we look forward to participating in next year’s concert!
- We were honored to participate in the VA / DOD Suicide Prevention Conference in Portland, Oregon. Our ongoing efforts to enhance our Veteran’s resource page and engage with the Veteran community have made this partnership particularly meaningful. We extend a special thanks to Katrina Doan for representing CSPP at the event.
- Max presented our Rethink the Drink program at the National Prevention Network (NPN) Conference in Phoenix, AZ. The Conference spotlighted the work to connect research, practice, innovation, and equity with substance use prevention. He made some great connections and shared our resources with groups from all over the country, including American Samoa.
- Lastly, CSPP participated in Cochran Inc.’s annual golf tournament. Each year, they select a charity to sponsor by selling golf sleeves, and this year, CSPP was chosen. We were proud to be the sponsored charity and excited to have raised $4,140, which Cochran will match. We want to extend our thanks to Brad Morton and Robin Halseth for organizing the event and helping us raise these funds.
In our next blog, we share how we are gearing up for suicide prevention month!
